Oooh FUN!

My editor has read the first (rough) draft of Book 9, and he loves it. I'm on the home stretch now — the end is in sight (in more ways than one). Over the next two or three weeks my head is going to be down and I'm going to working hard to fill in those gaps, to link up those scenes, to write those missing chapters. Right now I'm at 100,000 words. The end result will PROBABLY be about 120,000 words — maybe just slightly shorter than KOTW. Of course, in order to finish the book, I'll need to pick a winner of the Who Gets to Die competition we ran ages ago, and then that lucky reader will get to meet their grisly end...

And because I, and therefore WE, are on the home stretch, this blog is going to be choc-a-block with announcements and reveals over the next few weeks. By the end of THIS week, for example, we'll be revealing the cover for the Armageddon-Outta-Here short story collection. Next week, we'll reveal the full, WRAPAROUND cover for the collection (it's awesome). And the week after that? We'll be revealing the title for the ninth, and last, Skulduggery Pleasant book.

Well, that's wonderful. Two in a row.

I dedicate this page to the song A Different Beat by Little Mix because, unlike, a decent amount of modern songs, it encourages you to be different and not to force yourself to fit in.

I also dedicate it to the Bloglandian Quotes Project, because it's awesome.

And to the 2nd Blogland Awards, in the hopes that it might actually happen :)

Administrator Kestrel LeStarre-Sparrowhawk The Celestial said...

Because this is where the spider people want us to be.

Ahem.

What I meant was, because it's wonderful and pretty. Obviously. Why would the spider people-if there were any, which there aren't- want us to be here?

Amethyst Temerity said...

Ah...so we are here for the beauty. And NOT these "spider people" you are talking about which, of course, do not exist! ...Why do we mention them if they don't exist? Are they a figment of our imagination? Are we imagining everything right now? What is going on???

Administrator Kestrel LeStarre-Sparrowhawk The Celestial said...

Yes. And to experience nature.

We are imagining everything, because nothing is real.

Except for the spider people.
In fact,t here is one behind you.
But don't turn- if you do, there'll be one in front.

Hello Sir!

Sir said...

Good bye, Ms. LeStarre.

Greetings, Ms. Temerity.

Amethyst Temerity said...

Hi! How are you?

Sir said...

Standard, Ms. Temerity.

I hope you are well, Ms. Temerity.

Amethyst Temerity said...

I am :)

Wonderful to hear.

Quite.

Arcanine said...

Indeed, though I am not certain that you should seem so enthusiastic for the inevitable parade of death that shall be the upcoming book.

Amethyst Temerity said...

Hello Arcanine.

Amethyst Temerity said...

...well, I guess it's silent again?

Sir said...

I suppose so.

Noelle said...

Wow, I didn't even know that there was a new post! Oops!

Noelle said...

I don't suppose anyone's here anyway. Not that that's a matter, anyway. Silence is nice, especially with how this place has been for the past, well, ever.*nods*

Sir said...

Ah, greetings, Ms. Dark.

Worry not, I make the same mistake, rather often.

Noelle said...

Also-

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter- tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning-

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past"

I finished The Great Gatsby. I didn't think that my books could get any better after reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin, but it apparently did! I adored it!

Habadabadaba. Talk about wanting to punch some people! Geez! Daisy is such a ditz! And Tom's a jerk. However, it was beautifully written and I would recommend it to all! I could really hear the cynicism that Fitzgerald felt towards the American Dream and the materialistic American society that was the 1920s. Fabulous :)

Noelle said...

Hello, Sir! *hugs* How are you, despite the fact that I can guess your answer?

Sir said...

I enjoyed The Great Gatsby immensely, Ms. Dark.

And, as you may guess, I am standard.

How are you?

Noelle said...

It truly was wonderful. However, I have to pity Gatsby at the end. Not by the downfall that came to him by what would be his fatal flaw, but because he still loved Daisy.

*Shudder* Ugh. She's revolting.

And I am glad that you are no less than standard. I am well, thank you for asking. However, I'm quite tired from a rather straining weekend that could possibly be extended into a straining month, so I'll be departing soon to get some rest.

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

Well then this is cool and scary.

Someone is on so I am leaving and its Tech Week and I'm tired

Sir said...

Ms. Dark, there is no accounting for taste, despite how revolting a potential taste for someone may be.

Well, you deserve every bit of rest, Ms. Dark. I hope to see you more often.

Zanida Laufeydottir Queen of Asgard (Zafira Kerias) said...

And if you wonder its Annie I'm doing. The show. Ok Zaffy cant type without falling asleep so goodnight

Sir said...

Good night, Ms. Kerias. Sleep well.

Noelle said...

Moot point, Sir. Moot point.

I suppose I should say however that I was impressed by the amount of color symbolism and symbolism in general that there was in the story. For example, the T. J. Eckleburg billboard is described to have eyes that have an omniscient feel. To the Modernist eye, one such as Fitzgerald, that would be the eyes of "God", so to speak, watching and not doing anything to help the people. (Noting that the billboard is also int eh Valley of Ashes, where many people would undoubtedly feel disillusioned and abandoned by God).

I've thought a lot about this book.

And, I hope I do see you more often as well. However, things here got hairy, and I didn't feel comfortable nor safe here, so I've had to remove myself. It seems that things are more peaceful in my absence though.

I shall make an effort to come on more often when you are online, though!

Sir said...

Ms. Dark, things do indeed seem to have quieted down quite a bit. However, I honestly believe that the current situation is due to the passing of time more than your absence.

In any case, please feel free to come here, even when I am not present. You still have many friends here.

Noelle said...

Real talk though; the green light?
*Small squeal* It was so ingenious! Oh, the humanity!

Perhaps that is what was the most sad about Gatsby's downfall. He is one of the most hopeful- if not the most hopeful characters I have ever had the good fortune to read, and he was so hopeful that he sacrificed his reputation for Daisy- and paid the price for it.

And to add to the wound, only Nick, Mr. Gatz, and the Owl-Eyed Man (who, by the way, could also seen as a "helpless omniscient/omnipotent) made an appearance at his funeral.

What a tragedy..

Noelle said...

Ah, I'm not too sure by what you mean of that, if you'll forgive me- I have checked a few days ago, and it seems to me that this world has pacified itself. I don't want to risk coming back permanently again. I know that everything will only begin again, and I certainly don't want that for anyone, least of all myself.

Thank you for the offer, though- I shall continue to keep that in mind.

Noelle said...

*Add insult to injury

^ I was trying to remember that phrase, and it wasn't until now that I did ~_~

Sir said...

Of course. In the end, you are more than old and mature enough to make your own decisions.

Noelle said...

Indubitably so. The moment that I turned 15 at 6:32PM on March 9th, I wisened by a decade almost instantly.

Sir said...

A side effect of having your age become a multiple of 5. Some of the wisest people I have ever known were at the age of 10.

Noelle said...

Curiouser and curiouser... As they say in every cliche detective tale, 'the plot thickens'.

Or, depending on if it is a literary pun, 'the plot Dickens'.

I'm rather proud of that one, methinks.

In any strange and unsolved case of age, I think I'm going to depart now and try to get some much-appreciated, uninterrupted sleep.

Therefore, I must bit you good night, good Sir, and leave you with this quote from the revered Mademoiselle Reisz:

"To be an artist includes much; one mus possess many gifts- absolute gifts- which have not been acquired by one's own effort. And, moreover, to succeed, the artist must possess the courageous soul [...] The brave soul. The soul that dares and defies." (85-86)

I think it's rather lovely.

*nods*
*Hugs*
*Whisks away*

Sir said...

That is a lovely quotation.

In any case, good night, Ms. Dark. Sleep well. And do not forget to awaken.

You know, I don't think I want to read the final book. I want to live wondering how this and that happens, how these certain people accomplished these certain problems. I can't find it in myself to even think about the ending yet.
In these weeks I've been offline, I've discovered more about Dannielle than I thought possible. I know that she's happy again, for starters. I also know that her most hated colour is also her favourite, that she's an amazing person and that she probably can't take the pain knowing that Skulduggery kills Val's reflection after Valkyrie and her parents are safe somewhere.

Though, in some really, really sick and twisted part of my mind, I want to see the world burn.

Hypothesises of the book 9 title:

-The End (meh)

-Darquesse (following the trilogy pattern of The Faceless ones and Death Bringer)

-Your Tears (because, metaphorically, it is)

-.... Uhh, that's all I got... Looking at them, those titles suck and I hope none of them actually are the titles because they are TERRIBLE titles.

Although, knowing Derek, he will have an absolutely awesome one that he has kept to himself since 2007.

*decides it needs to be said why I am annoyed*

So someone in the education department decided it would be a good idea to change all the kids usernames to there actual names instead of their profered ones and didn't tell anyone at the school. This didnt affect most people, but it affected me, as I go by Jenny but its actually Jennifer. So all day I was having trouble with may laptop, getting on the internet and the like. But I could still log on to my laptop. Turns out, they changed everything bar my laptop login over to Jennifer. So I have to now badk up everything on my laptop so the teck guys can delete th3 Jenny account and put in Jennifer. And it is just so annoying. *mutters other stuff*

Also, my math teacher is a moron. But I wont go into her stupidity right now.

*decides to talk about my math teacher*

So she came up to me today and looked at my work. She stared at it fir a bit then hunched down in front of me and said, like I was 5, "now this is wrong, isn't it?".

The "it" she was referring to was 20 × 4 and I had it down as being 80, which it is. But she said it was wrong. I swear I felt like saying "no,no it's not" but I didnt. Instead I just looked at her. Well, more glared.

But do you know what she said?
"Now, you need to do this again, okay? And make sure you show your workings." And she said it like I was in pre school.

And I am the smartest in the class.

I. Want. To. Kill. That. Bitch.

Excuse me.

Felt your light-

I saw a bird
Closing her eyes
One last time,
And I wondered if she dreamed like me.

As much as it hurts, ain't it wonderful to feel?
So go on and break your wings
Follow your heart till it bleeds
As we run towards the end of the dream.

Why must we fall apart
To understand
How to fly?
I will find a way,
Even without wings.
Follow your heart till it bleeds
As we've come to the end of the dream.

Woooo lyric spam.

I used to be a regular here, you know. There was hardly a second I wasn't on. Everyone knew me, and I knew everyone, and we told the most magnificent stories together. Most people here now barely know me. I barely know them. I haven't written a story with or for them in an eternity. I feel like I've lost so much, but I can't take it all back now, and I'm so afraid that once I'm able there won't be anything left for me to reclaim. I don't want to become a stranger here, but I fear that I ready have, and so many of the things and people I loved about here are gone. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth the effort to not be a stranger. But I said I wouldn't leave- couldn't leave forever, and I don't intend to. I still can't. I just hope that I haven't already left in spite of myself.

Alastair Cruciatus said...

Sorry- I'm going to be distant and msd pretty much constantly, since I'm in school. I just have a free period now, so.

Anyway. I very much appreciate the senitment, both of you. Just... Even the fact that I feel like a stranger and so many of the things I loved about here are gone makes me a relic, in a way, I think. And the fact remains that so many people I love have left, and the roleplaying seems mainly gone, which was never the only reason why I love this place, but it was still really fun, and I felt like it was a great way to bond with other people and develop characters. Also, it was good for me as a writer to have the practice with plots and things. It'd be fun to reintroduce myself and all my plots and things to new people- see how I can effect people who don't already have formed opinions of the characters- but meh. I'm probably just lowering the mood by being all nostalgic, anyway- sorry...

#ChaseForBook9

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

I don't mind nostalgia. Its fun to remenise. Plus I would love for you to introduce some rp! I mean people do their own rp like Annika but since that started before I joined I don't really follow it. And its mainly just Annika in that one too...

Star Inkbright said...

@Ari and Silente on the subject of disappearing: Okay. :)

@Ari: It's okay. :/ To use Adra's phrase, I feel ya.
*grand voice* I am old, people, and I have seen generations rise and fall, like yo-yos, except the yo-yo kind of gets bounced once and then gets replaced, and what I can say is . . . er . . . well, what I can say it what I always say, which is that although my friends leave, and it sucks, and Blogland changes, and it sucks, and I have to be all human and go missing everything, and it sucks . . . well, what happens is that I miss the old Blogland for a bit, and I never really stop missing it, but after a while, I come to see how awesome the new Blogland is and get attached to it as well and make a whole load of new friends and get used to a load of new awesome stuff.
I have been here when people blogfought
I have been here when people just chatted
I have been here when people roleplayed
and now I am still here, for better or for worse. I like to think it's for better. :P
. . .
I have a feeling that little speech was meant to actually say something.
OH SHUT UP I'M ILL MY MIND IS ALLOWED TO WANDER ABOUT LIKE IT'S HIKING.
Um . . .
Well, what I can say I'm saying is this -
Missing things is a part of life. You will always have to say goodbye to people and awesome things. You will always have to move on. And it will always hurt.
But you will always find something awesome when you do move on. :)

#ChaseForBookNine

Alastair Cruciatus said...

Yeah, Annika does solo rps all the time- she was more or less the first to do that. Roleplaying without anyone else- specifically stating that no one else can join you- was basically a foreign concept before her. Before that, every person on the blog would be involved in one or two main plots that we all rped together.

#ChaseForBook9

Star Inkbright said...

*nods at Ari*

People are usually just solo-ing until someone else shows up they can talk with, but Anni is just - well, I don't have a word for that, I AM sorry. Maybe it was carved out with the fluffiness.

Just because some of your friends arent here doesn't mean you can't make new ones though. Much like what star said times change and along with it people and places change to. Sure some have left and you don't forget them. And its worse if they were forced to leave. But don't let them leaving force you to leave to. Because much as blog land feels different and possibly worse off without them it would feel different and worse off if you left too.

Regarding the earlier conversation, I am not in a position to speak of what this place was and has become, but I would most certainly be willing to join in a group roleplay, if no one has any objections, of course.

Rosalind Turner said...

That sentence was somewhat poorly worded. Apologies.

You're quite welcome, Silente.

Star, at college I do lessons, revise for exams, talk to my friends, play a card game, go to town, eat, drink and stuff like that.

Dragona Pine said...

Well I play both normal card games and this weird magic card game which is quite good.

Dragona Pine said...

I beat my friends in poker, earlier today. Won 10p. Just because we all put a few pence in.

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

@star according to Google translate its-Bien à l'école vous vous asseyez et écoutez un professeur alors qu'ils disent des mots compliqués. Vous continuez à faire cela avec quelques pauses entre les deux. Occasionnellement, vous pourrez profiter d'une leçon

Then again I don't trust Google translate..

Inky Flame said...

hmmm, I came up with the best name for my kik,

then I put his picture on aswell :)

Dragona Pine said...

Google translate is bad for everything but Spanish. Spanish works perfectly with it, but everything else is just crap.

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

Oh and Dragona, I took that character quiz you put on and came up with Ashley Williams. I was wondering what that actually means...

Rosalind Turner said...

Google Translate is generally, in my experience, quite unreliable. That may, however, be due to the fact that not everything translates perfectly and smoothly, especially between languages with completely different roots.

Inky Flame said...

Im not suppose to use it for my welsh. however with welsh it is ok for the odd few words

Dragona Pine said...

http://www.rarityguide.com/articles/content_images/5/MassEffect3/ashley_williams_.jpg

That's Ashley Williams.

And if you want to know about her:

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Ashley_Williams

A lot of things which happen to her depend on what you choose. She can die on a planet called Virmire in Mass Effect 1, she isn't really in ME2 but she survives an attack on a planet... then you CAN kill her in Mass Effect 3 if you want to be a total badass but yeah. That should sum everything up.

Rosalind Turner said...

The hour of my departure is fast approaching. I shall return at some point, certainly, though I cannot say when.

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

Er bye then au?

@Dragona so she gets into a lot of fights? And nearly dies often. Yup sounds like me

Inky Flame said...

byii Au

Dragona Pine said...

Well she IS a soldier. A very good soldier by all standards. However, she does have a little bit of racist tendencies. Not as bad as Cerberus who are like a terrorist organisation, but her experiences of other races are a little off so it's understandable. She's not REALLY one of the most interesting characters in Mass Effect, but she is in no way the last interesting.

Dragona Pine said...

She is a potential romantic interest in ME1 and ME3, but I never did it. I don't generally romance anyone in Mass Effect. Especially not if I'm being evil. I think I've only romanced anyone twice, and it was the same person. The first time was by accident, the second was because of the fact that I realised it was the best person to romance after making the mistake.

Inky Flame said...

hwyl fawr pawb, ive got to revise dwyieithrwydd for cymraeg

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

So she can usually hold her own in a fight and isn't too boring however she's a bit racist...
That sound good to me!

Dragona Pine said...

Was that going into Welsh?

Dragona Pine said...

Only SLIGHTLY racist. Like, very slightly. And yes she can hold her own in a fight. She survives an attack on a human colony called Horizon. The rest of the colonists are paralysed by these insect things called seeker swarms but she survives.

I'm sorry, Silente, but I don't trust Google Translate either. :P

I'm pretty good with forming French sentences, I just need vocab and to avoid more complex structures, and I have WordReference.com (one of the best websites ever) so I'm basically good, thanks. :P

@Dragona: Seeing as how it would take us forty minutes to get to town (assuming we went by bus) (and it would take about the same amount of time if we walked all the way to the train station at the other end of a nearby village), and even longer to walk, I don't imagine many people going to the college at my school go into town whilst at college. :P

At school, I went to lessons and listened to a teacher say some complicated words. I did this repeatedly with a few breaks, and every now and then I actually enjoyed a lesson.

Au college, je suis vais au mon cours et j'ai écouté un professeur pense quelques mots parlés compliqué. J'ai le fais à maintes reprises avec quelques pauses, et de temps à autre j'ai vraiment apprécier un cour.

I like it when you get things like idioms involving a word at the end of its dictionary section.

Totally didn't poof!

Star I love my french lessons normally. I have an absolutely great teacher who actually manages to make it fun. But unfortunately she got pregnant and gave birth and is on maternity leave..so we've had row after row of substitutes. Aka idiots. One lady was real nice but we only had her for two lessons. Now we have an idiot who thinks he's sooo smart and thinks he knows how to handle us. Hell he tried to bribe us with 'shiny stickers' cause we /totally/ care about shiny stickers.

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

Hey Adra. Why are you upset with the snow? Snows great!

Noelle said...

It's almost April, snow is the last thing we appear to need, especially considering how the warm weather was tantalizing and almost mocking us for the past several days.

*Sigh*

Curse the sky

Star Inkbright said...

@Adra: YOU WHAT. O_O

@Silente: Yeah, you didn't. XD
-_- Substitues can suck . . .
We have a couple of cool ones at my school, though. :)
In fact, I think we have three cool ones. And one of them used to be my rockclimbing instructor. Er. So I kind of know him by his first name, but yeah. :P
And - -_-
Yeah . . .
He should bribe you with edible prizes. XD

@Silente: Snow is great until you get sick of it. And Adra's had tons of snow this year (we had, like, one day. Haha. XD And it didn't settle), so . . . yeah. :P

(Don't you put your shoes on the radiator if they get wet?)

I adore snow. I like snow as much a I like the warmth of sunlight or the vibrant colours and new animals in spring or the orange and red and yellow leaves in autumn or lightning or a sunset. But I don't really like rain much..

Noelle said...

Rain is my Favorite :) storms in particular- any kind of storm, save the kind that kills people.

Star Inkbright said...

@Silente: I should start doing that . . . :P
But often, no. -_-

I like rain when it's not cold.
Which is usually is.
There's just something about being pelted with cold wet stuff that inevitably makes the air colder and everything is grey and gloomy and like the colour has been bleached out and you have to have your lights on in the middle of the day because it's so dark -
yeah, not nice. XD

Star Inkbright said...

I don't like weather, I guess. :P
I don't like standing there shaking and shaking, and the wind is like a knife, and whatever you do, whichever way you turn, the cold is still there, and . . . you know, now it's warmer, I just love the feeling of being able to MOVE. I'd never realised before how tensed up I've been because of the cold, standing there like an icicle - frozen and rigid. Now it's slightly warmer, I can actually move with fluidity, and it's nice.
However, I hate being too hot. XD I'd pick cold over heat, I think.

I think I feel cold slightly more than the average person, but not massively more.

Me and my friend came up with an awesome weapon (in like medieval times).

It consisted of like a gauntlet and a thick leather glove (maybe with a thin layer of metal between the layers of leather - just for added protection). It'd have spikes on the palms of the gloves (not like sword spikes - like kind of either little bumps or like needles), just for one hell of a slap. The reinforced leather would mean that you could like catch swords in your hand, and you could have attachments on the gauntlets like daggers or swords for blocking, or a hook kind of thing to punch through armour and drag people off horses.

It would reduce the need for conventional weaponry, which can be easily countered if a castle is built a certain way. If the design is good, the corridor will be narrow and curve to the right or something - so the enemy would be unable to swing their swords, whilst giving your soldiers full functionality from the other direction where they wouldn't be hindered.

I mean, a guy running around slapping everyone would be pretty cool.

Jai (Silente Tempest - St Of Sinners) said...

Sorry bout poofing, my brothers are being annoying.

I like the idea of warmth and I like the sun in spring, when its warm and there but not TOO warm. I don't like it in summer when its burning hot and your melting and its all goey and fat men take there shits off (never the skinny muscly ones who are manscaped) and just ew.

Star Inkbright said...

That sounds ace, Dragona. O_O

Another idea I came up with was to have small dagger blades on the outside of a sword, just so if the enemy was charging they'd be impaled on your shield wall. However I deemed it impractical because you'd kind of have to push their corpses off the blades, and it might be too heavy.

Dragona Pine said...

So yeah.

Dragona Pine said...

Crap. Thought someone would have commented then.

Dragona Pine said...

Sorry in my other comment I meant to say shield, not sword. Now I need to think of a dedication...
